The short version

FODMAPs are fermentable carbohydrates. That last row matters. If a product acts like one enzyme can handle every food, be skeptical. Free fructose and polyols are not the same job as lactose, GOS, fructans, or certain fibers. For those foods, the more useful tools are the low-FODMAP foods list, the high-FODMAP foods list, and actual pattern tracking.

Why single-enzyme products can feel incomplete

A single lactase product can be useful if lactose is the issue. The NIDDK notes that lactase products can help some people manage lactose-intolerance symptoms. A bean-focused enzyme can make sense if beans and legumes are the issue.

But real meals rarely come with one clean trigger. Pizza can mean wheat fructans, lactose, garlic, and onion.   • Named enzymes: lactase, alpha-galactosidase, fructanase, and fiber enzymes should not be hidden behind a mystery blend.
  • Disclosed amounts: the label should show activity units for the enzymes that matter, not just a proprietary-blend total.
